Known as the beating heart of the Sunshine Coast, Maroochydore sits in the centre of this stretch of Queensland’s coast situated on an intersection between river and ocean. This combination means that Maroochydore enjoys the calm waters of the Maroochy River as well as brilliant surf. There are a number of great surfing beaches as well as a handful of sheltered coves with gentle waters for families and swimming to enjoy. Alternatively, you can make the 20-minute journey to Noosa.
Noosa
13:30 to 17:00
3 hours 30 minutes
One of Australia’s most popular and fashionable beachside destinations, Noosa is a gem of a coastal town situated on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Set against a backdrop of lush, subtropical rainforest and fringed my calm, crystal clear waters, Noosa is laid back, relaxed and intimate. Set within the Noosa Biosphere Reserve, it is a UNESCO-recognised area famed for its diverse ecosystem.
Not only can you get in touch with nature in Noosa, its reputation as a fashionable resort means you can shop ’til you drop in designer boutiques, dine in must-try destination restaurants and mingle with the laid-back locals.
The town itself is split into three zones consisting of Noosa Heads (upmarket), Noosaville set along the Noosa River (more relaxed) and Noosa Junction (the administrative hub).
There’s plenty to see and do around Noose including surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing the waters of Laguna Bay, kayaking in the Noosa Everglades and swimming with the humpback whales from July to October.
You’ll trek through the stunning Noosa National Park, spanning 4,000 hectares, and up and around the famous Noosa Heads. The scenery along the way is simply breathtaking.
The coastal walk typically takes around three hours but there are lots of photo opportunities on the way so you may want to give yourself a little longer.
Today, you’ll say goodbye to your Sunshine Coast retreat and head back to Brisbane or onto your next destination. Before you leave, you might be able to head down to the beach for another surf or a stroll along the sand.
